AirMask - Active Air Pollution Mask for Kids

Development of a powered air mask that is comfortable to wear, easy to use, culturally accepted as well as aesthetically pleasing for Chinese children.

At first glance a pollution mask looks quite trivial, however since Covid-19 everybody knows that having the right mask for the right usecase can be a global discussion topic. It is almost impossible to achieve a satisfying product that fulfills the key requirements:
- Safety
- Comfort
- Aesthetics
- Ease of Use
- Manufacturability
Although this product is now more relevant than ever, air pollution was a huge issue also before the pandemic and especially in urban China. The development of this product was a team effort at TU Delft. Countless of hours of Solidworks Flow Simulation ran into the development of the device that works with a blower that delivers a steady fresh air flow to the user.
Iterative rapid prototyping and intesive user testing
With the help of iterative prototyping we were able to test the comfort and ease of use early on in the development process. The video gives you an idea about our process and the scope of this project.
This project was especially fun because of the hands on approach and the teamwork needed to come up with a unique air pollution mask
